Video Analysis- Music Video Conventions

Today while i was in the lesson I have done a little research about the song i want to use and how the  music conventions are this mean thst the characteristic movies which are figures and conventions for music videos. However I have researched three or four different music video that into so, as an individual  I can use these music video that I have research on to my benefit when producing my music video. On top of this it will assist in my analysis of existing music videos.  Although I did talk about these points as an individual to assist myself as well.
The genres of music have their own music video style and certain things such as setting, clothing and lighting are recognised symbols I expect to see and It is obvious that music videos are used promotional cloth consequently it is frequently a command for their to be close ups of these artists to make it clear who they are and encourage them.
As some of the artists expand their own star icon. However there are also probable to be a proposition of voyeurism created in the video.

Music
  • The music  video will constantly create employ of the rhythm of the track to force the expurgation
  • This  might highlight fussy sounds from the track by fore fronting confident tools
Lyrics
  • As noticeable as it might sound it is significant to produce a connection between the lyrics and the visuals, with the visuals exemplifying, magnifying the lyrics.
  • As they assist to found a all-purpose  undergoing or frame of mind or a common sense of theme substance
  • The key lines may play a part in the visuals but rarely will you get a literal response
Genre
  • Some pieces of music are difficult to categorise and therefore the video needs to emphasise its distinctive features, being reflected in the mise-en-scene
  • certain themes will be appropriate in certain genres which will also be reiterated in camera and editing styles
Camera Work
  • this includes how the camera is used also  how it is sequenced will impact upon its meaning
  • this my include the camera angles, movement and distance done well will give it the lively feel
Editing
  • It is significant that you motion picture to edit-the most common editing styles being fast cut montage, which give confidences frequent sightings
  • narrative is often bitty
  • digital effects such as straitening and lucidity can often be used to good effect
  • This may also include sluggish- rate editing will have gentle changes which assist to found the frame of mind.

Storyboard for my music video

Although I have drawing the storyboard and I have make notes how am I going to take an images of each individual scene so that I can create and Animatic of shots to help me build the music video I  making my final product.Although my media Studies creative project I propose to produce a music video for a film Future History.

I have decided upon the Music video genre because as a production individual I feel it is an exciting and appealing genre. However the elements involved in a music movie are, the human voice, sound effects, music and mystery. In pre-production I will be thinking of ways to create these elements with a minimal budget and small production players. Although I wish to make a Music video a uneven period of around two or three minutes.

If it is possible in editing, I propose to make the music video have an exact period of or two or 3mins 20 or 30secs. In addition to I think this would be a good way to bind into the mystery of the film because many music films that involve mystery have hidden clues within the film.

The storyline behind my music video is, one teenage who’s trying to have an ordinary life this means that tying to have an ordinary life is being anything is so much fun and people don’t have to be a certain way to impress other people. If they like someone for being who they are then that’s grant. But if they don’t then that’s great too, their loss...should never be an afraid to be who they are ...express their self proudly and don’t take any criticism from on one.

Furthermore Although I am doing a music video the main story and plan does not have to be described totally in the whole music film clip and I can portray the main themes of the m music film using text narration which will be dealt with in post production editing.

The audience I am appealing to be is 15+ cinema audiences. Although I think my music film will appeal to teenagers above the age of fifteen because it involves the music, mystery and characters close to their age which they can relate to. I also feel that my most prominent audience will be girls of this age and above, my reason for thinking this is that most male girls of 15-25 enjoy mystery and sad stories more than males of the same age.

My music video could be similar with other music videos such as the anything but ordinary album by Avril lavigne, unwritten album by Natasha bedingfield, blah blah blah album by Kesha. I feel these music videos are easily similar to my idea as they all hold the same main themes of adventure mystery. However my main difference is from these music videos and it will be that I will not have exciting railway wagon pursue but I will replace these type of pursues with on foot exciting chases using a normal screen.

My necessitate an extremely small production players of around three people which I already have. I have decided on the roles of responsibility as thus; Mina– Technical me because I am an individual who doing my thing, although I will the editing and the director of Cinematography, also I will be the  Producer, Co – Director, even the props Manager. In terms of acting I aim to do most of the acting my selves to eliminate dependency on other people which in event of absence could slow down production.

The equipment I require will be a camera work and editing suite. It was my own production and most of this equipments betweenme so Iwill need this provided for myself to finish the camera work and editing. Therefore the ethical issues I may come across in this film may be the issue of teenagers doing stunts and having relationship problem.

Today before starting to film my music video, I had to create a storyboard so my music video would be original and make certain my music video has all the essential shots that I want to use and I require for the music video to be an accomplishment. I also decided to draw my storyboard and give a small Annotation to what the shots are doing and what type of shot Ii have used. Creating the storyboard gave me a better idea of what I want my music video to look like.

Final Storyboard

Today I have decided to draw my final storyboard images for each scene because wanted to know where exactly each scene should go.  Although this storyboard is important for me to produce because it gives me a selection of each point in my music video. Therefore my final storyboard comprises a few lists of shots numbers and shot durations, also Information about the shots and characters in the scene.

My storyboard is made up with 27 shots  but some of the shots are similar so I  have decided to draw the main shots that I wanted in my music video, but as I am making my music video I will include these other shots I have mentioned to make it look better by using more shots in between those 15 shots below, so in order to make my music video even improved.

So here is my storyboard-

For example the Article avril lavine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKOgpaf9sOA like to use an informal town setting shown in her video leave before the lights come on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dg_7TL5PAzA article Natasha Bedingfield also has a similar video filmed in a town centre, so this makes the music video look magnetizing.
This story board has been improved slightly and I have added more details which need to be added.  However I haven't followed these music vidoes I have looked at, so I decided to make unique style in my music video.

Rough Sketches and Trials

After coming up with the name for my magazine, I went on to draw some rough sketches of possible layout ideas for the front cover of “Future History”

My target group and audience is in the age range 15-25, this means that I fit the criteria, and because of this it allowed me to decide and have a close into what my target group and audience would want.  Therefore, I planed quite a few different research which allowed for my target group and audience to state what they wanted as well as point to what they didn’t or did like in my own project and real media products. During my research it allowed me to recognize the needs of my precise target group and audience, as the success of the media product provided me with a sign as to whether the target group and audience would liked it, and whether or not it met their needs. Although I tried to make as many techniques for right of entering audience feedback before I had finished each of my products so that if my target group and audience did not like something I would be able to make any changes needed.

For example, during the construction steps of my magazine cover I planed research which my target group and audience could decide which font colouring and style them favoured and without asking them a feedback during the course. Using the Blog I have had the accessibility of teachers to remark on my work, this means that to discuss aspects if my target group and audience did like it or not; although other students providing me with feedback was of great advantage to me, this means that for them fitting my target group and audience range it meant that their needs and wants were completely suited to the criteria of my media products. The use of the remarks part of the blog was very helpful to me than the use of research as it meant that the audience wasn’t maximum value to a mark box answer, as the remark box allowed for the accessibility to state their view and ideas.

From this I decided that the grey version looked better than the black. This is because although the black was quite vivid and electric, the grey version looked more like an actual cable and would fit in with my genre, rock/indie a lot better. As a result of this, I also decided that the colour scheme for my music magazine should be black, white and grey.I then made a quick rough front cover on Photodhop using photos from the internet to give me an idea of the sort of thing my magazine could look like in terms of layout:-

Creating this rough front cover made me realise that for my actual front cover of Future History cable I would also like to use a long shot photo of a band, but obviously one that I have taken myself.  but would layer more headlines over the top for the real thing. Using these ideas I came up with this plan for my front cover.
I then tried creating my masthead on photoshop, using the idea I had from my mind map and some of my sketches to help. I tried using an white colour and a dark grey colour for this as shown below :-
